10/28/2020 1 Comment Week 7: More researchThis week I needed to finally decide on how I was going to mount my motor to a wheel and figure out how to make it efficient. I had a good idea that I would make use of a fifth wheel so that I would not have to cut the trucks for the motor attachment for the wheel.
The issue with not knowing what you are doing is the fact that I actually have no idea what I’m doing. Professional companies use weird techniques that use the attachment of the motor to the wheel on trucks with specially machined parts that are meant for electric longboards. The issue I have is that if I put the motor on bearings I will lose all efficiency if I put the wheel on the ground. If I don’t put the wheel on bearings then when I put the wheel on the ground and when I don’t have the motor going it will just destroy the wheel. So what I think I’m going to do is put the wheel on a stick so that I can push it up or down when I need to. I was even thinking that I could put the throttle into the handle as well. This could be nice because it could make it all in one for the handle and the board. Even though the hand position when trying to balance would be worse. The last issue that I have is that I have no idea how I am going to mount this said motor handle and motor. I was thinking that I could add an extra piece of wood that I can mount the motor to with a hole that I can use for the rod that has the handle with the throttle. I think that I am going to order an extra wheel or two to let me mess up and not have to wait more time.

I just had to point out that "The issue with not knowing what you are doing is the fact that I actually have no idea what I’m doing," is one of my favorite sentences from anything I've read recently, haha. It's a feeling that I have every time I do Genius Hour, so at least it is universal.
